Four years ago, on June 16, 2016, our first ever gracies gal's class was held at Eringate Park.
A sisterhood, first. Then a community. I didn't know that a journey through entrepreneurship would be my path in this life - and now I could never imagine it being anything else. I did not think in a million years, truly, that I was starting something that would become THIS. I thought I would run gracie's gals classes in the summers, graduate from university, leave the country to Au Pair (nanny), somewhere like Australia or Hawaii. Then I'd land my dream job in some fancy office along the way and it would make me proud as ever. Nope. Enter all of the gals, a dog, family and meeting my partner - all things that made me say, "I'm staying home."
Grace and I are 12 years apart. We met when she was 2 and I was 14. This year she turns 16 and I turn 28. Our conversations used to be about her love for Justin Bieber, then High School Musical, then One Direction - I could never keep up with the ever-changing posters in her room. We would talk about what SHE wanted to be when she grew up and I didn't even know what I wanted to be. We used to go and pick strawberries together at Murphy's Berry Farm in Binbrook and I'd cart her around in my Silver Chrysler Neon during the summertime. I even remember bringing her to McMaster with me one day because I had to submit part of my University Application in person.
Now, we talk about all things high school and all things business - gracie's gals. She still helps me make big decisions. What in the world? How did we get here? How did I start this thing 4 years ago and how do I still not know what I'm doing most of the time? We've tried new things that have worked, things that haven't and we've succeeded and failed BIG. I've learned, IT'S OK.
How did I learn this? From all of you. Our gals. Our community.
Our community is incredible. You either knew us before we started, or you met us after but it truly doesn't make a difference to us. We're grateful for old faces, new faces and the ones we haven't seen yet but will, soon!
Speaking of new faces, we keep seeing them in our classes and we want to give credit where credit is due - it's because of YOU! You continue to share the journey that you and your gals have had with us. Thank you isn't enough. Thank you for always sharing what we do at gracie's gals - but more importantly for sharing who we are.
You got us here. Four years!
We're evolving a whole lot more heading into years four and then five, so you'll have to wait to find out what's coming but we can promise it will be nothing short of our very best - for all kiddos. For our community.
